5 Tips for Child Skincare

Child Skincare

Your child has it rough. Kids play all day getting dirt everywhere, staining their best superhero shirt, and putting their toys through the ringer. If I didn’t know better, I’d think they actually enjoyed it!
Poor things

With all the hard work they put in each and every day, it’s no wonder that it can begin to take its toll on their skin.

In all seriousness, there are a plethora of reasons why you’re your child’s skincare should be a priority. Not only does it help them to build healthy habits that will last into adulthood, but beginning a regular at-home skincare routine can also help subside compulsory actions, establish bonding time with mom and dad, and it will give them something positive to look forward to each and every day.

Sensitivity and Exposure

Always try to keep in mind that your child’s skin is sensitive. It hasn’t been around that long. Prolonged and repeated exposure to harsh elements such as extreme heat, cold or wind can have a myriad of ill effects on skin.

Repeated and prolonged exposure to the sun can lead to sunburn, which damages skin. Windy areas can lead to chapped skin. And cold weather can actually dry skin, causing damage that can last.

Because you love your child and only want the best for them, here are 5 tips for child skincare to help you and your child build and maintain healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Tips

  1. Bath Time – It all starts with bath time. Your child plays hard, so it’s only befitting that their bath should be enjoyable, too. Because of all the harmful chemicals, dyes, and artificial fragrances used in so many of today’s shampoo’s and body washes – it’s best to use only products that have 100% organic ingredients.

Since your child is most likely a fan of bubbles, Baby Mantra’s 3-in-1 Bubble Bath + Shampoo + Body Wash is the perfect bath time buddy for children of all ages. It offers real lavender oil and aloe for an all-natural way for your child to get clean while staying chemical-free.

  2. After Bath Lotion – After bath time, go for the kid’s lotion. Again, organic ingredients are always best. Too many products these days that are marketed for kids, as it turns out, contain carcinogenic properties, harsh chemicals, and sometimes toxins.

Although Baby Mantra is primarily geared toward babies, their Calming Lotion is one of the best lotion’s for kids on the market today. It offers healthy shea butter which locks in moisture, and lavender oil for a calming scent – perfect for helping your child unwind after putting in a long day.

*Note: While you are going for the lotion, you can use Baby Mantra’s Detangling Conditioner to ensure your child’s hair stays soft and easy to comb or brush. Since you are already establishing a healthy skincare routine, you may as well integrate a healthy haircare routine, as well.

  3. Fragrance or No Fragrance? – The answer is always a resounding no. The reason is because all too often, children have sensitivities to products with synthetic fragrances. This is why you should only use fragrance-free products. The only time your child’s skin and hair products should be scented, is when the scent is coming from organic substances that are all-natural, like lavender oil and/or shea butter.

Sunscreen – your child’s skin should always be protected from the sun, cold and wind. Most people connect sunscreen with the beach, the pool, etc. However, any time your child is outside, a mild sunscreen is a good idea. This is true even in the cold. In fact, sometimes even more so. If the sun is shining bright or if there is an overcast, wind and cold can damage skin and the sun’s rays can still damage it. Using sunscreen in the winter may sound crazy, but your child’s safety is worth the added measure.

  4. Routine Washing – Other than bath time routines in the evening, teaching your child to wash their face is the morning and again in the afternoon is essential to any viable skincare campaign. Again, have your child use fragrance-free, organic face wash only for the best – and safest – results.
